Participants in the Jiahe Vocational Training and Mentoring Programme "JVTMP" receive 18 months life skills and technical training and 6months industryexperience in partner hotels. We hope all the students will get stable jobs and be rewarded with a bright future after their two years' training.
Cycle 1 (2015-2017) 12 graduates came from 6 provinces, with 5 females (42%) and 7 males (58%). All were offered employment at The Peninsula Shanghai.
Cycle 2 (2017-2019) 21 graduates came from 8 provinces with 8 females (38%) and 13 males (62%). All w ere offered employment in 9 five-star hotels in Shanghai and Beijing.
Cycle 3 (2019-2021) 53 graduates come from 16 provinces, with 23 majoring in western pastry (43%) and 30 majoring in western culinary (47%), of whom 23 were females and 30 males. Youths were offered employment in 25 hotels in Shanghai, Suzhou, Nanjing, and Guangzhou.
Cycle 4 (2020-2022) 42 graduates came from 14 provinces, with 19 youths majoring in western pastry (45%), and 23 youths majoring in western culinary (55%), of whom 13 are females and 29 males. 5 y ouths came from minority ethnic groups. Youths were offered employment in 14 hotels in Shanghai and Suzhou.
Cycle 5 (2021-2023) 56 youths came from 15 provinces, with 23 youths majoring in western pastry (41%) and 33 majoring in western culinary (59%), of whom 28 are females and 28 males. 4 y ouths were from minority ethics groups. Youths were offered employment in 30 hotels in Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuhan, Cheng Du, Sanya and Guangzhou.
The Shanghai K Charitable Foundation was registered with the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau.
All twenty-one youths and teachers went on a two-day tour to Suzhou, which they planned, organised and guided independently.
Twenty-one youths went to Beijing for a one-week tour.
Twenty-one youths trained for three days as coffee baristas at Beijing Golden Milan Coffee Training College. All passed the exam and obtained junior coffee barista certificates.
All twenty-one youths were split into two groups for 24 days' industry experience in The Peninsula Shanghai and The Peninsula Beijing.
Madam Yue-Sai Kan served as the Goodwill Ambassador of Shanghai K Charitable Foundation for a three-year term.
Twenty-one youths took the Shanghai Tourism Industry Hotel Foreign Language Examination conducted by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism. All passed the examination and received the certificate of Shanghai Tourism Industry Hotel Foreign Language-English, Level C.
Nineteen youths passed the written and practical test of the Western Culinary Certificate (Level 4) held by the Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and received their Certificate.
The annual commendation and summary was held to review the youths ’performance and accomplishments over the previous 15 months.

Evaluation team conducted face-to-face interview and home visits in Yunnan, Sichuan, Henan and Shanxi which were the four Provinces with the most applications.

Cycle 3 (2019-2021) participated in 6-day Boot Camp at Jiaxing in Zhejiang province.
Cycle 3 youths visited the 23rd Shanghai Global Food Trade Show (FHC) where they had their first exposure to ingredients and culinary-ware of Western Cuisine. A sharing session on FHC was organized afterwards.
An annual gathering was held to express our appreciation to all supporters, with a showcase of the accomplishments of Cycle 3 youths in Semester One.

Shanghai K Charitable Foundation supports the Jiahe Vocational Training and Mentoring Programme, aimed at holistic training. The programme includes:
Tuition Fee: The programme covers the training cost and provides meals and accommodation.
Training Period: Eighteen months include twelve months of technical skill training and six months of industry experience.
Life skills are critical to the youth’s future development and independence.Theprogrammeprovides abundant training within and outside of classroom, such as English, computer skills, interpersonal skills, practical math, PE, basic law, citizen knowledge, career planning guidance, field trip.
The 18 months training in technical skills, cultural cultivation and self-management should be comprehensive.

Pastry making: young people studying Western baking will work in hotel pastry kitchens or high-end bakeries.

A vital goal of the programme is to cultivate understanding and appreciation. Many of our students have received kindness and help, which they will now be able to reciprocate.
The programme requires the youths to complete 30 hours community service over 2 years. They will have to find opportunities to volunteer themselves, which will improve their confidence and communication skills.
After 18 months technical and life skills training at the Sir Horace Kadoorie Youth Development Centre, the students will a start six-month industry experience course in five-star hotels, high-end Western restaurants and high-end bakeries. The programme is associated with The Peninsula, Four Seasons and Hyatt groups.
